Dr Benjamin Dodd

Dr Ben Dodd is an accomplished General Surgeon with particular expertise in laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. Ben was raised in Brisbane and completed a Bachelor of Science degree before obtaining his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 2001. He then pursued his specialty training in the UK and Ireland, where he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. Following his return to Brisbane, Dr Dodd underwent further fellowship training. He honed his skills in complex laparoscopic upper GI cancer and bariatric surgeries at the Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospitals. During this time, he also completed the Australasian Fellowship exam and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Dodd has developed a vast knowledge in bariatric surgeries with proficiency in complex revisional/redo procedures, providing dietary weight loss advice based on evidence, upper GI cancer, hernia surgery, biliary disease, and reflux disease and hiatus hernia. As an academic appointment holder as Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland, he is actively involved in teaching surgical registrars and medical students. He is a member of several renowned surgical organisations, including RACS, RCS Edinburgh, ANZGOSA, and OSSANZ. During his extensive training and current clinical practice, Dr Dodd has actively presented and published research in peer-reviewed journals. He also holds a Masters of Science degree and is presently leading various research projects in upper GI surgery across multiple hospital sites. He takes a keen interest in minimizing surgical complications while providing the best possible patient experience through enhanced recovery programs, laparoscopic surgery, and robust clinical governance and audit practices.
