Dr Jason Wong

Meet Dr Wong, a highly-skilled specialist surgeon with a focus on obesity and metabolic, oesophagogastric, gallbladder, hernia, and general surgery. With dedicated training in New Zealand, Dr Wong quickly gained recognition for his innate surgical talent, leading to his specialist training and numerous accolades as a registrar. He continued to build on this success, earning a traveling fellowship to Vienna to present his research on cancer at an international conference. Dr Wong’s extensive experience led him to sub-specialize in oesophagogastric and bariatric surgery in 2015 before relocating to Australia to become the inaugural fellow at Redcliffe Hospital. While Dr Wong's dedication to surgical care is certainly impressive, it’s his welcoming and compassionate demeanor that sets him apart. As a surgical innovator, Dr Wong has made significant contributions to the field with several surgical techniques he has pioneered:

• Two-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy
• World's first laparoscopic repair of paraduodenal hernia using BioA hiatal reinforcement
• A technique utilising endoscopic pilonidal sinus surgery to definitively manage pilonidal abscesses without the need for packing
• A technique to close contaminated laparotomy abdominal wounds while achieving a cosmetic result equivalent to that of a clean, elective wound. Dr Wong's qualifications include holding a fellow status with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), a bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Otago, and a post-graduate diploma in Surgical Anatomy also from the University of Otago.
