Colac lies around 150 km from Melbourne city towards its southwest. With a population of 12,547 as of June 2018, Colac has become the largest city of the Colac Otway Shire LGA.

History of Colac The city was named the nearby Lake Colac, and in 1960, it was declared a city. Clans of the Gulidjan people used to occupy the region for thousands of years, and they used to live a semi-nomadic life. The Europeans settled in the area in 1837, and the first among them was Hugh Murray and then his brother Andrew.
