Dr Ratna Aseervatham

Dr Aseervatham is an accomplished surgeon who obtained his medical degree from the University of Queensland School of Medicine in 1991. Soon after, he embarked on his surgical journey by entering the General Surgical Training Program of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. After completing his specialized training in Hepatopancreaticobiliary Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, he further honed his surgical skills for two years in the United Kingdom. Dr Aseervatham has been an integral part of the Sunshine Coast Health community since 2001 when he landed his first consultant surgeon post at Nambour General Hospital. During his 16-year tenure in a leadership role, he successfully created a patient-focused culture of collaboration and made a significant clinical contribution to the planning and development of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. In 2002, he became Director of General Surgery and three years later took on the role of Director of Surgical Services for the Hospital and Health Service, which he held until 2018. Dr Aseervatham’s clinical practice is focused on providing evidence-based surgical care to optimize outcomes for his patients. As a surgeon, he recognizes the importance of combining technical expertise with the psychosocial aspects of the doctor-patient relationship. Throughout his lengthy career, Dr Aseervatham has been dedicated to improving the health of his community, earning him a reputation as a trusted and committed healthcare provider.
