Dr Peter Khong

Dr Peter Khong is a highly qualified and experienced neurosurgeon based in Sydney, Australia. With a special interest in cerebrovascular surgery, non-instrumented and complex spine surgery, and brain tumour surgery, he brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to his roles at St George Public and Private Hospitals, as well as Prince of Wales Hospital.

Dr Khong's academic achievements are impressive, including graduating with first class honours from the University of NSW. During his training, he spent a research year at the Kolling Institute of Medical Research working on a project focused on the “Molecular Heterogeneity of High-Grade Gliomas”. His work resulted in the inaugural Avant Doctor in Training Research Scholarship and the Hubert Stuerzl Memorial Educational award.

Dr Khong's expertise and reputation in neurosurgery led to him being awarded his fellowship in early 2016. He then undertook a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgery spine fellowship at Prince of Wales Hospital, where he trained in both open and minimally invasive techniques. This widened his expertise to cover a variety of spinal pathologies, including degenerative spinal conditions, spinal trauma, spine tumours, and deformity.

In 2017, Dr Khong travelled to Toronto Western Hospital in Canada to complete a cerebrovascular and skull base fellowship. There, he gained extensive experience in treating cerebrovascular pathologies such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas, cavernomas, and carotid stenoses. He also gained expertise in treating trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm through percutaneous rhizotomy and microvascular decompression.
