Dr. Michael Ward is a highly skilled and experienced Cardiologist based in Frenchs Forest, Sydney, Australia. He specialises in Interventional Cardiology and has a particular interest in Atherogenesis, Vascular Biology, Andocatheter Techniques, and the Biology of Ischaemic Syndromes and Heart Failure.
Dr. Ward completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of London, United Kingdom, in 1994. He then pursued further training and professional development in the field of Cardiology, undertaking a fellowship at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom. He subsequently received extensive training at Royal North Shore and Prince Henry Hospitals in Sydney, Australia.
With a passion for research, Dr. Ward went on to complete a PhD on restenosis after angioplasty and stenting at the prestigious Baker Institute in Melbourne, Australia. He furthered his post-doctoral studies at Stanford University in California, USA, while working as an Interventional Fellow.
Returning to Sydney, Dr. Ward joined the team at Royal North Shore Hospital, where he currently practices. He maintains a balanced professional life, combining clinical work in coronary intervention with ongoing research in the mechanisms of arterial remodelling in de novo atherosclerosis and restenosis. His clinical research interests also include investigating the mechanisms of late stent thrombosis, tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy, and optimizing outcomes in high-risk coronary interventions.
