Dr Marc Russo

After earning his MBBS in Sydney, Dr Marc Russo furthered his qualifications in England, where he gained a DA (UK), FANZCA (Syd), and his pain specialty, FFPMANZCA (Newcastle). As a seasoned anaesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist, Dr Russo has dedicated his career to the field, with a particular focus on pain medicine. It was his observation of the high demand and lack of private pain clinics in Newcastle and its surrounding Hunter region that led Dr Russo to establish Hunter Pain Specialists (formerly known as Hunter Pain Clinic) in November 1999.   With a vision of creating a multi-disciplinary approach to pain management, Dr Russo brought together healthcare professionals to help deliver a unique service to the Newcastle community. He expanded Hunter Pain Specialists's services by purchasing the Hamilton Day Surgery in 2001 and using it as his consulting suites. After refurbishment, he opened the Hamilton Day Surgery Centre in 2002 as a functional unit to perform pain procedures.   Dr Russo also opened Hunter Specialist Medical Centre in Broadmeadow, Newcastle, to provide various essential services in one building, thus reducing patient inconvenience and travel time. To complement these clinics, Dr Russo established Genesis Research Services (formerly Hunter Clinical Research) to undertake company-sponsored and investigator-initiated research on pain management and chronic pain treatments. Dr Russo believes research is critical to advancing patient care and treatment.   With Dr Russo's expertise, Hunter Pain Specialist has become known both nationally and internationally. He is a part of many international advisory committees and is considered an expert in pain medicine and neuromodulation.
