Dr Aparna Raniga is a highly skilled and dedicated Ophthalmologist with expertise in glaucoma and uveitis. She currently practices in Chatswood, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Dr Raniga completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand in 2006. She then pursued her passion for Ophthalmology and completed two years of basic medical and surgical residency, followed by two years as a non-vocational Ophthalmology registrar at Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand. During her time there, she authored the Ophthalmic Emergency Guide for Christchurch Hospital.
In 2010, Dr Raniga embarked on advanced vocational training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, which she completed in 2015. During this period, she had the opportunity to train at various prestigious institutions worldwide.
Dr Raniga first completed a Glaucoma Fellowship at Bern University Hospital in Bern, Switzerland. Under the guidance of Professor Iliev, she gained expertise in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and uveitis. In particular, she trained in non-penetrating glaucoma surgery, focusing on deep sclerectomy. Dr Raniga also received training in uveitis management under the guidance of Associate Professor Tappeiner.
Following her fellowship in Switzerland, Dr Raniga pursued another Glaucoma Fellowship at the Ivey Eye Institute, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada. There, she received extensive training in the comprehensive medical and surgical management of adult glaucoma, under the guidance of Associate Professors Tingey and Motolko.
Dr Raniga is actively involved in research and recently initiated a randomized controlled clinical trial investigating the use of laser (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty - SLT) in treatment-naïve glaucoma patients at the Ivey Eye Institute. She has authored several peer-reviewed publications and has presented her work at multiple conferences.
Dr Raniga is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in ophthalmology. She attends both local and international meetings to bring the latest evidence and advances to her patients. In pursuit of ongoing education, Dr Raniga commenced a Masters in Public Health with the University of Sydney in 2018.
Dr Raniga strongly believes in patient-centered care. She listens attentively to her patients, thoroughly discusses treatment options, and tailors evidence-based care to meet each patient's individual needs.
