A/Prof Glenn Young

Glenn’s medical journey began when he graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1985. He then pursued his internship, general medical training, and advanced cardiology training at the prestigious Royal Adelaide Hospital. During this time, Glenn developed a keen interest in invasive treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, a field that was still in its early stages of development. Driven by his passion, he embarked on a journey abroad to further specialise in this area.

As the recipient of the Lions Heart Foundation Travelling Fellowship, Glenn spent 12 months studying at the renowned Royal Brompton National Heart Hospital in London. He then continued his training for an additional two years at the University Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. This international exposure allowed Glenn to gain invaluable knowledge and enhance his skills in the management and treatment of arrhythmias.

In 1994, Glenn returned to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he played a pivotal role in establishing a comprehensive electrophysiology service. Currently, a significant portion of his practice is dedicated to performing catheter ablations and implanting pacemakers and defibrillators for patients with cardiac arrhythmias. He is committed to staying at the forefront of his specialty and remains actively engaged in ongoing research in the field.

In addition to his clinical practice, Glenn is deeply involved in medical education. He takes an active role in teaching medical students, cardiac trainees, and nursing staff, serving as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide. Moreover, he contributes to advancing the field of cardiology through his involvement in various committees, such as the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, where he has served as the Chairman of the Pacing and EP working group. Glenn is also actively engaged in federal government committees related to cardiology.
