Dr Peter Steele is a highly skilled and dedicated cardiologist based in New South Wales, Australia. Dr Steele obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Adelaide in 1976, graduating with honours. He then completed his internship, general medical training, and cardiology training at the prestigious Royal Adelaide Hospital. In recognition of his expertise and contributions to the field, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 1981.

Following his achievements, Dr Steele was granted a Lions Post Graduate Medical Scholarship to conduct research on post-myocardial infarction patients. This research led him to receive a National Heart Foundation Overseas Clinical Fellowship in 1982, enabling him to study at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. At the Mayo Clinic, Dr Steele focused on research in atherogenesis and thrombosis, particularly developing a pig model of acute arterial injury using angioplasty. He also pursued fellowships in echocardiography and cardiac catheterization during his time there.

Upon his return to Adelaide in 1984, Dr Steele was appointed as a staff cardiologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, solidifying his reputation as an outstanding medical professional. In 1988, he joined Adelaide Cardiology, where he continues to practice today. Dr Steele's interests span all aspects of clinical cardiology, and he has a particular passion for interventional cardiology and pulmonary hypertension.

Dr Steele is not only committed to his patients but is also actively involved in postgraduate teaching. He plays a crucial role in an international research project focused on pulmonary arterial hypertension. Throughout his career, Dr Steele has held several esteemed positions in professional bodies, including serving as the State Secretary of the Cardiac Society for ten years and as a member of the Cardiac Society Council for six years. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Specialist Training Committee (cardiology) of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a board member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and a Director of the National Heart Foundation (SA).

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field, Dr Steele was appointed as the Director of Cardiology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2005. He divides his time equally between the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Adelaide Cardiology, where he continues to provide top-quality care and contribute to advancements in the field of cardiology. Dr Steele's dedication and expertise make him a highly respected and sought-after cardiologist in Australia and beyond.
