Originally from Norway, Dr Whist relocated to Australia to pursue her medical career. She completed her medical degree through the University of Newcastle in 2004. Following her degree, she embarked on a journey of volunteer work, joining Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and providing medical assistance in Burkina Faso, West Africa (2007-2008) and the Central African Republic (2010).

Dr Whist's passion for providing healthcare to underserved populations led her to work as a rural General Practitioner in Norway in 2008. During this time, she also completed a Master's degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from 2006 to 2009.

After returning to Australia, Dr Whist pursued her specialization in Ophthalmology through the Sydney Eye Hospital training network from 2010 to 2014. She further honed her skills by completing a fellowship with the Fred Hollows Foundation in Fiji and Alice Springs, where she gained expertise in manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS) and had the opportunity to teach Pacific ophthalmology trainees.

Continuing her pursuit of excellence in eye care, Dr Whist held a Professorial Fellowship at Sydney Eye Hospital, focusing on uveitis/medical retina. During this time, she gained valuable experience in complex uveitic cataract surgery and was involved in crucial clinical trials in medical retina, exploring new therapies for conditions such as diabetes and age-related macular degeneration.

In January 2020, Dr Whist joined Darwin Eye Surgeons at Darwin Private Hospital, where she provides exceptional eye care to her patients. She also holds a position as a staff specialist in ophthalmology at the Royal Darwin Hospital, actively participating in outreach services to communities in Katherine, Gove, and other remote areas. Additionally, she serves as a locum Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in ophthalmology at Alice Springs Hospital.

Dr Whist is dedicated to the education and training of future ophthalmologists, junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
