Dr Brian Power is a respected consultant neuropsychiatrist based in Nedlands, Western Australia. He is currently practicing at Hollywood Private Hospital and The Hollywood Clinic, where he specializes in neuropsychiatry, older adult mental health, mood and anxiety, psychosis and memory in later life, and general adult psychiatry.
Dr Power completed his postgraduate medical degree and PhD in clinical neuroscience at the University of Sydney. During his studies, he focused on researching the brain circuitry of the thalamus. Following this, he obtained specialist registration as a psychiatrist in Western Australia and completed subspecialty training in psychiatry of old age. He then worked as a consultant psychogeriatrician in the South Metropolitan Area Health Service.
Throughout his career, Dr Power has made significant contributions to the field of neuropsychiatry and neuroimaging through his postdoctoral research. His particular focus has been on the thalamus as a neuroimaging biomarker. Dr Power's passion for teaching and educating young medical professionals led him to serve as Professor and A/Dean (Preclinical) at The School of Medicine Fremantle, University of Notre Dame Australia. He continues to hold the position of Adjunct Professor at UNDA.
In his practice, Dr Power provides care for patients with psychiatric conditions that stem from organic brain disease, including neurological disorders such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and seizure disorders. Additionally, his older Adult Mental Health service offers treatment for patients experiencing mood and anxiety symptoms, psychotic symptoms, and memory complaints.
