Dr Wai Kah Choo is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist specialising in the management of heart rhythm abnormalities. He completed his medical education at the University of London on a full government scholarship and underwent postgraduate medical training in London and Scotland, where he received general cardiology training and a two-year fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology in Aberdeen.
Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Dr Choo completed a cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at Australia's leading quaternary electrophysiology center, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, under the guidance of renowned Professor Jonathan Kalman. During this fellowship, he gained proficiency in performing all types of electrophysiological procedures, from supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) ablations to complex arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. He is also highly skilled in implanting and managing devices including internal loop recorders, pacemakers, defibrillators (ICD), and biventricular devices (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy; CRTs).
Dr Choo's expertise in the field is recognized by his certifications as an Electrophysiology Specialist and Cardiac Devices Specialist awarded by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE, USA). He serves as an IBHRE Ambassador and actively participates in several IBHRE committees. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS, USA), Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC, USA), Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (FCSANZ), and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London). Dr Choo also contributes his expertise as a member of the CSANZ committee for Atrial Fibrillation.
A dedicated educator, Dr Choo holds a Postgraduate degree in Medical Education and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (UK). As a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University, Australia, he actively educates patients and fellow doctors on the management of heart rhythm disorders. Dr Choo is committed to advancing the field and is involved in national and international research trials, with a particular focus on supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and atrial fibrillation. He is widely published and recognized for his contributions to the field of cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology.
Dr Choo's patients benefit from his extensive experience, knowledge, and expertise, as he continues to make significant contributions to the field, ensuring the best possible care for individuals with heart rhythm abnormalities.
