Dr Upul Premawardhana

Dr Upul Premawardhana is an experienced and accomplished Cardiologist based in Campbelltown, Sydney. With over two decades of expertise in the field, he serves as the head of the Cardiology department and the Director of electrophysiology at Campbelltown Hospital.

Dr Premawardhana obtained his medical degree from the University of Adelaide with first-class honours in 1993. He completed his internship and residency at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, before undergoing further training in cardiology at renowned institutions such as Royal Prince Alfred and Westmead Hospitals. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2001.

As a cardiologist, Dr Premawardhana's proficiency covers all aspects of general cardiology, encompassing echocardiography and exercise stress testing. His particular area of expertise lies in electrophysiology, where he has accumulated over 20 years of experience in managing various arrhythmia conditions, including atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardia ablations. He possesses in-depth knowledge of devices such as the Holter monitor, continuous loop recorder, and pacemaker and defibrillator interrogation clinic. Moreover, he possesses a special interest in syncope, and actively runs the maternal cardiology outpatient clinic at Campbelltown Hospital.

In addition to his clinical commitments, Dr Premawardhana is actively engaged in medical education and research. He takes pride in mentoring and teaching medical students, registrars, and advanced trainees. Currently, he is actively involved in multidisciplinary research projects focusing on pulmonary hypertension and atrial fibrillation.
