Dr Praveen Sukumaran

Dr Praveen Sukumaran is a highly qualified Psychiatrist with over 10 years of experience in both Australia and overseas. He is a certified Consultant Psychiatrist by RANZCP college. Dr Sukumaran started working in the Cairns public mental health sector as a Psychiatrist in 2013, where he honed his skills and gained valuable experience.

Throughout his career, he has worked in various roles such as managing inpatients and outpatients, coordinating ECT, and administration. However, more recently, he has expanded his expertise and now focuses on community-based management of mental health patients, following the recovery-focused model of care.

Dr Sukumaran is a firm believer in providing top-quality holistic mental health care to his patients using a collaborative approach. He works closely with families, other specialists, and service providers to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes for his patients and their families.

Dr Sukumaran has a particular interest and expertise in managing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders. He is a private consultant and also supports adult inpatients at Ramsay Clinic Cairns.
