Dr Peter Wu is an accomplished academic gastroenterologist with a speciality in gastroenterology. He mainly operates in the suburb of Westmead, located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Dr Wu is affiliated with St George Private Hospital.
Dr Wu's interests lie within the field of gastroenterology, focusing on colonoscopy and hepatology. His special interests include oesophageal disorders, such as oesophageal dysmotility, gastro-oesophageal reflux, and eosinophilic oesophagitis.
As an academic, Dr Wu has dedicated himself to clinical research, particularly in the area of swallowing disorders. He completed his gastrointestinal training in 2014 at the University of NSW and went on to earn his PhD from the same institution in 2018 for his groundbreaking research on innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools for swallowing disorders.
Dr Wu's commitment to enhancing his skills led him to undertake a fellowship at Prince of Wales Hospital, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, in 2019. During this fellowship, he developed advanced therapeutic endoscopic skills, with a specific focus on third-space endoscopy, including endoscopic myotomy and advanced polyp resection.
In addition to his clinical work and academic pursuits, Dr Peter Wu is an acclaimed researcher who has secured numerous local and regional competitive grants. His research findings have been published in respected international medical journals. Notably, he has made significant contributions to the medical field through the development of a novel minimally invasive procedure known as cricopharyngeal peroral endoscopic myotomy (C-POEM), which has proved to be effective in treating swallowing disorders associated with neuromyogenic disorders, such as Parkinson's disease.
Currently, Dr Wu serves as the director of the St George Motility Services at St George Public Hospital. In addition to providing clinical care, he serves as an advisor to the Swallow Clinic and the Gastrointestinal Motility Laboratory. Dr Wu leads by example and his passion and dedication to advancing gastroenterology are evident in his commitment to serving both current and future generations of patients.
