Dr Murray Taverner

Dr Murray Taverner is a well-established medical practitioner, registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency who specialises in anaesthesia and pain medicine. With extensive experience, he has been operating as a pain medicine specialist at Frankston Hospital and in private practice for 29 years, having become a full-time Pain Medicine Specialist since 1998. He is the Practice Principal and Supervisor of Training at Frankston Pain Management and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Perioperative Medicine at Monash University. He is also a visiting medical officer in the Peninsula Integrated Pain Service at Frankston Hospital. Moreover, he is one of the founding directors of Neuromodulation Society Australia and New Zealand and he was elected to the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia as a board member in 2020.

Dr Taverner holds an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor Surgery from Monash University. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetics in London and Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia. Additionally, he has a Graduate Diploma in Medicine - Pain Management from Sydney University, a fellow of the Faculty Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia and a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice through the World Institute of Pain.

Dr Taverner is committed to providing his patients with exceptional pain management care, aiming to maximise function while reducing pain and suffering. He is particularly specialized in treating neuropathic pain, radicular pain and sciatica, back pain, neck, shoulder and arm pain, facial pains/headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, male and female pelvic pain, post-surgical pain syndromes, and refractory cancer pain. Dr Taverner uses a multidisciplinary approach to therapy such as medication review and adjustment, pain management education, psychological strategies, intensive rehabilitation programs, and interventional treatments. He has vast expertise in cutting-edge techniques such as nerve blocks, epidural and transforaminal injections, diagnostic and therapeutic infusions, radiofrequency treatment, percutaneous intradiscal therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), and advanced pain treatments like spinal cord stimulators, drug pumps, and other advanced techniques.
