Dr Clayton Thomas is a renowned professional in the field of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. With an MBBS from Monash University, Dr Thomas has been committed to medical excellence since graduating in 1983. During his career, Dr Thomas has focused on improving rehabilitation processes for pain patients by developing a predictive model to promote high-quality rehabilitation. To bolster his knowledge in the field, he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust in 1993. As part of the program, he traveled to the United States of America and the United Kingdom to study the most effective methods of rehabilitation for back injuries.
Dr Thomas then honed his expertise at the Rehabilitation Unit, Professorial Unit, University of Melbourne, as Acting Director for over three years. He is most notable for developing a comprehensive and sophisticated pain clinic at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, which remains a leading pain service in Victoria to this day. During this time, he also helped reform the way that pain patients were treated and rehabilitated, placing him among the leading authorities in pain medicine.
The innovative approaches taken by Dr Thomas have earned him recognition in the field, leading to him being granted a Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA) by the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. This was achieved through a Grandfather Clause, which recognized his significant contributions and expertise in the domain of pain medicine.
