A/Prof Michael Hii

A/Prof Michael Hii is a Bariatric and Oesophago-Gastric Surgeon based in Melbourne, Australia. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne in 2000. A/Prof Hii is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and holds several other qualifications including a BMedSci (Melb), an MBBS (Melb), and a PGDipSurgAnat (Melb). He works as a consultant at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and Epworth Healthcare. He is the deputy director of the Hepatobiliary and Upper GI unit at St Vincent’s Hospital and the Pre-SET co-supervisor. In 2009, A/Prof Hii was awarded his surgical fellowship and underwent subspecialty training in Melbourne and Brisbane.

A/Prof Hii's main interests lie in Upper GI Surgery with a focus on hepatobiliary surgery. He specialises in conditions such as hiatus hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, obesity surgery, and esophageal and gastric cancer. A/Prof Hii is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to his patients. He combines his expertise and experience to deliver personalised treatment plans tailored to each individual. Throughout his career, A/Prof Hii has made significant contributions to the field of surgery as a clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne where he is actively involved in the surgical education of medical students. In addition, he is the chair of the St Vincent's Upper GI and Hepatobiliary research group with several published articles in prestigious medical journals, including the Australasian Radiology and the Journal of Heart Valve Disease. A/Prof Hii is also the inaugural chair of the HOPE fund, a philanthropic foundation supporting research and the provision of care for patients undergoing major upper Gl surgery.

In his spare time, A/Prof Michael Hii loves spending time with his daughters, collecting old guitars and plays an occasional game of golf.
