Dr. Louisa Lo is a compassionate breast medical oncologist who provides patient-centered care at the Perth Breast Cancer Institute and Breast Cancer Research Centre (BCRC)-WA, located in Hollywood Private Hospital. She strongly believes in shared decision-making and prioritizes this approach in her consultations with patients. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Lo is the Education Lead of BCRC-WA and provides clinical education to medical trainees, patients, and clinicians through pamphlets, presentations, and newsletters.
Her primary interests include familial breast cancer, new drug studies, breast cancer management, and cancer prevention. Dr. Lo also consults at the breast cancer medical oncology clinics at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Dr. Lo began her journey as a medical oncologist at the University of Manchester (UK) and completed her breast cancer oncology fellowship training at the renowned Peter MacCallum Breast Cancer Unit in Melbourne. After completing her fellowship, she continued to work as a medical oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Breast Cancer Unit. Dr. Lo was awarded the prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council PhD scholarship and RACP excellence award in 2017, and she is currently completing her PhD in breast cancer liquid biopsy. She is interested in using liquid biopsy as a tool to personalize breast cancer treatments for patients.
Dr. Lo has been a principal investigator for breast cancer clinical trials and has established her own investigator-initiated studies with recruitment sites in Melbourne and Adelaide. She has been published in prominent international cancer journals such as British Journal of Cancer, PLOS Medicine, and Cancer Discovery, and she is a reviewer for international cancer journals. Dr. Lo is also a clinical examiner for the FRACP medical physician specialist examinations.
Dr. Lo is available to provide medical education, patient management plans, and information on a range of oncology issues to all health practitioners.
