Prof Adnan Khattak

Professor Adnan Khattak is a highly regarded Medical Oncologist in Perth, Western Australia, specialising in the treatment of gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary cancers, melanoma, and lung cancer. He currently holds a position as a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) and serves as the Director of Fiona Stanley Hospital Cancer Clinical Trials Unit.

Dr. Khattak began his medical training in Adelaide before moving to the UK. He worked as a Clinical Research Fellow at the renowned Royal Marsden Hospital in London. In 2013, he was awarded Fellowship in Medical Oncology and subsequently worked as a Consultant at Royal Perth Hospital. He joined FSH in 2015.

Dr. Khattak has an impressive research record with over 60 peer-reviewed articles published in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Oncology, and JAMA Oncology. He has also co-authored the National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) guidelines for the management of advanced colorectal cancer.

He has presented his research at numerous national and international scientific meetings and has been invited as a speaker to various countries worldwide. His current research projects focus on blood-based biomarkers, such as circulating tumor cells and circulating tumor DNA. He is particularly interested in identifying high-risk patients with bowel cancer and those unlikely to benefit from post-operative chemotherapy.

Dr. Khattak has received several prestigious research awards, including the Cancer Council WA Suzanne Cavanagh Young Investigator Award, Spinnaker Health Research Foundation Collaborative research grant, and MSD Young Investigator award. He has also been granted funding from the NHMRC and the Raine Foundation.

As an active researcher, Dr. Khattak has a strong interest in clinical trials, particularly in the areas of colorectal cancer, melanoma, and cancer immunotherapy. He leads the largest trials unit in Perth South Metro at Fiona Stanley Hospital and is involved in various clinical trials at Hollywood Private Hospital.
