Dr Lincoln Rothwell

Dr Rothwell is a Specialist Surgeon who completed his medical training in Auckland, New Zealand, before undergoing advanced general surgical training in Sydney. During his training, he developed expertise in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery, gaining surgical experience across various surgical centers. In 2009, he received admission to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons as a Specialist Surgeon.

With a special interest in bariatric surgery, Dr Rothwell went on to complete a Bariatric and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgical Fellowship at the Flinders Medical Centre and the Adelaide Bariatric Centre. During his fellowship, he conducted research and recognized the gravity of obesity as a disease and the implications it has on mental and physical health.

Dr Rothwell has an active interest in obesity and bariatric surgery and provides extensive experience in primary and revisional bariatric procedures. He received the Obesity Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand’s Young Research Prize in 2013 for his research in the field. In 2015, he commenced as a specialist Bariatric Surgeon in Adelaide and worked there for a year, performing significant operations and publishing researches.

Dr Rothwell moved to Brisbane in 2016 after he was appointed as a Staff Specialist Surgeon at the Ipswich General Hospital and acquired a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Queensland. He continues to provide primary and revisional bariatric procedures and laparoscopic general surgeries and also performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Dr Rothwell is currently affiliated with the Obesity Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand.
