Dr John Phamnguyen is a highly qualified General Neurologist and subspecialist Epileptologist, currently practising in Brisbane, Queensland. Dr Phamnguyen completed his medical training at Griffith University, followed by his specialist neurology training in Sydney. After obtaining his Fellowship in Neurology from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), he worked extensively in epilepsy during his fellowship at Westmead Hospital, one of the largest comprehensive epilepsy centres in Australia. At Westmead, Dr Phamnguyen gained valuable experience in the management and assessment of complex refractory epilepsies, including surgical evaluation with intracranial EEG monitoring and multimodal neuroimaging processing.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Phamnguyen is also an active researcher, having presented his research work at national and overseas conferences. He is currently undertaking a PhD at the Centre for Advanced Imaging with the University of Queensland, focusing on understanding seizure networks in epilepsy using advanced imaging techniques. His goal is to identify the structures and networks responsible for focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures, secondarily generalisation.
Dr Phamnguyen is accredited by the EEG and Clinical Neurophysiology Committee (EEGCNC) of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN) as a Level 3 EEG supervisor, allowing him to offer outpatient EEG services. He is an active member of the Epilepsy Society of Australia (ESA), Young Epilepsy Section (YES-ILAE) of the International League Against Epilepsy, and American Epilepsy Society (AES).
Dr Phamnguyen currently holds public and private appointments at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital, and Mater Private. He provides neurology consultation for a wide variety of neurological disorders, with subspecialist interests in complex epilepsies and advanced neuroimaging techniques. Dr Phamnguyen is committed to providing the highest quality of care to all of his patients.
