Prof David Little

Prof David Little is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in paediatric surgeries, specifically focusing on paediatric hip conditions. He practices primarily in the suburb of Woden, 2606, located in Canberra. Prof Little is associated with Westmead Private Hospital.

Prof Little completed his MBBS degree at the University of Sydney in 1986. He further advanced his training in the United States at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, OR, and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, TX. He obtained his FRACS(Orth) in 1995.

Besides clinical practice, Prof Little is actively involved in research and education. He has raised over $12 million in research funding and has published more than 150 articles related to paediatric orthopaedics. His research focuses on biologic agents to support the treatment of children's orthopaedic conditions. He currently serves as the Head of Orthopaedic Research and Biotechnology at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where he specializes in implant design and evaluation.

Prof Little has been invited as a speaker at various events and instructional courses. He has co-convened the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society Instructional Course since 2010. He is a member of the International Paediatric Orthopaedic Think Tank and was recognized as the ABC Travelling Fellow in 2002. In 2005 and 2010, he received the Basic Science Paper Award for the Outstanding Paper at the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.

Currently, Prof Little holds the position of Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Orthopaedics and serves as the Head of Orthopaedic Research at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. Additionally, he is a Conjoint Professor in Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Sydney. His expertise lies in the management of paediatric hip conditions such as Hip dysplasia (DDH), Perthes disease, and slipped epiphysis. Furthermore, he specializes in lower extremity conditions including Leg length discrepancy, limb deformity and reconstruction Osteogenesis Imperfecta, and Osteonecrosis. Prof Little also maintains a private practice at Westmead Private Hospital. In 2013 and 2017, he received the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Practitioner Fellowship.
