Dr Andrew Kanawati

Dr Kanawati earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honors from UNSW in 2006. He continued his academic pursuits by completing a Master of Applied Anatomy by Dissection at the University of New England during his advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery. Recognized for his research on the sciatic nerve and femoral artery anatomy in joint replacement and trauma, he has received multiple Allan Frederick Dwyer Prizes for Best Scientific Paper at the Australian Orthopaedic Registrars Association ASM. He has also published numerous peer-reviewed studies in leading Orthopaedic journals.

In 2017, Dr Kanawati obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He further honed his expertise in spine surgery through a two-year Fellowship at Victoria Hospital in London, Canada. During this time, he also completed a Master of Surgery at Western University, specializing in 3D printing and patient-specific guides for spine surgery.

Dr Kanawati's clinical interests encompass adult degenerative spinal disorders, adult deformity surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS), and the utilization of additive manufacturing and 3D printing in spine surgery, including patient-specific surgery. He currently practices at Westmead Private Hospital and North Shore Private Hospital in a private capacity, as well as at Westmead Hospital in a public capacity.
