Meet Associate Professor Weranja Ranasinghe, an Australian-trained urologist and uro-oncologic surgeon with a focus on personalised patient care. With a private practice at Waverley Private Hospital and a consultant position at Monash Health, he is an esteemed member of the medical community in Melbourne, Australia. Weranja is passionate about treating patients with general urologic conditions, such as kidney stones and urinary symptoms, and has a strong interest in urologic cancers, particularly prostate cancer. He utilises advanced surgical techniques, including robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgery, to provide tailor-made treatments for his patients. After earning his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) degree from the University of Bristol in the UK, Weranja moved to Australia to pursue his PhD in advanced prostate cancers at the University of Melbourne. He received membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS Ed) in Edinburgh and went on to complete his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Urology) in 2019. Weranja's passion for advanced urologic surgery led him to undertake a highly competitive 2-year fellowship at the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in the USA, where he further honed his skills in robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgery for urologic cancers. Weranja is a member of various Australian and international societies, including the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ), Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) in the USA, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is dedicated to providing the highest level of patient-centred care, and his expertise and experience make him a valuable asset to the medical community in Australia.
