Prof Mark Frydenberg

Professor Mark Frydenberg is an esteemed Urologist who obtained his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1982. After finishing his fellowship in Urology at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1990, he went on to sub-specialize in urological cancer surgery as the Urological Oncology Fellow at Mayo Clinic (1991-1992). Later, he worked at Royal Melbourne Hospital and Monash Health before becoming an Associate Professor at Monash University's Department of Surgery in 1997. Professor Frydenberg was also appointed the Chairman of the Department of Urology at Monash Health, which he served for 20 years until 2017. He is currently a board member of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and the Academic Director of Urology at Cabrini Health. He holds other positions in the medical field, such as Deputy Chairman of the Professional Standards Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, on its council, and a board member of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, of which he was President from 2015 to 2017. Professor Frydenberg is a Member of the Order of Australia, awarded in 2016 for his service to medicine. His publications include over 190 peer-reviewed articles in urological cancer research field, and he has amassed over ten million dollars in competitive grants to that end. He regularly presents at national and international conferences, reviews, and is an editorial board member for two major international urological journals. Professor Frydenberg works closely with allied health professionals and basic scientists to ensure the best possible pre- and post-operative care with a survivorship viewpoint for all patients.
