Dr Michael Swan

Dr Michael Swan is a highly acclaimed consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist based in Moorabbin, Melbourne, Australia. With exceptional expertise in all fields of gastroenterology, he is affiliated with Holmesglen Private Hospital. Dr Swan graduated with first-class honors from Monash University Medical School in 1998, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.

Following his medical training, Dr Swan completed his specialist training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Southern Health and Geelong hospitals. He then pursued three fellowship years in clinical endoscopy at Monash Health, Westmead Hospital in Sydney, and St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. During these fellowships, he had the privilege of learning from leading experts in the field from Australia and around the world.

Currently, Dr Swan serves as the Director of Endoscopy at Monash Health, furthering his dedication to the field of gastroenterology. He has a keen interest in therapeutic endoscopy, specialising in pancreaticobiliary conditions, and the screening and early treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. Dr Swan is known for his exceptional skills in performing complex interventional endoscopic procedures such as mucosal resection (EMR, ESD), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), mucosal ablation (RFA), and peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia and other esophageal dysmotility conditions.

Dr Swan's commitment to advancing the field of gastroenterology is prominent through his active involvement in ongoing research at Monash Health. His work has been published in multiple articles focusing on clinical gastroenterology and endoscopy and he also serves as a reviewer for gastroenterology journals. Additionally, Dr Swan frequently shares his extensive knowledge by presenting at national gastroenterology and endoscopy conferences, often serving as a chairperson.
