Dr Thao Lam

Dr Thao Lam is a skilled and experienced gastroenterologist based in Wahroonga, Sydney, Australia. With a special focus on managing complex liver diseases, she is dedicated to optimizing the treatment and care of patients with viral hepatitis, alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver disease (including fatty liver).

Dr Lam obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sydney in 1996, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the same university in 2002. She further honed her expertise by completing her advanced Gastroenterology training at reputable institutions such as Concord, St Vincent's, and Nepean Hospitals.

Currently, Dr Lam serves as a Senior Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital, where she practices Gastroenterology and Hepatology while also contributing her knowledge and skills to Drug Health. Additionally, she serves as a Visiting Gastroenterologist at the Sydney Adventist Hospital.

Dr Lam is proficient in utilizing non-invasive tests for liver fibrosis diagnosis, notably the Fibroscan. She is part of the pioneering team at the Sydney Gastroenterology and Liver Group, which proudly offers this service at the Sydney Adventist Hospital.

In addition to her expertise in liver diseases, Dr Lam has a keen interest in treating various conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, bowel cancer screening, and the management of functional bowel disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Dr Lam is accredited by the Gastroenterology Society of Australia in gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and capsule endoscopy.
