Dr Sherab Bhutia

Dr Bhutia is a highly experienced vascular surgeon with special interests in endovascular and open management of arterial aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, chronic venous disease, and more. He completed his medical training in India and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and Glasgow in 1998. In pursuit of specialist training in vascular surgery, Dr Bhutia relocated to the UK in 2001 and trained in the Northern Deanery. He earned his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons with Vascular Interest in 2011. Dr Bhutia moved to Australia in 2012 for post-fellowship training in Endovascular Surgery, followed by joining the Cairns Hospital in 2014 as a full-time Staff Specialist. Dr Bhutia is an expert in performing all open surgical procedures in the operating theatres at Cairns Private Hospital and endovascular surgeries in the new Discovery Cardiac Cath Lab at Cairns Private Hospital. His range of interventions for patients with varicose veins includes open surgery, radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy, microsclerotherapy, and endovenous glue ablation. Dr Bhutia also offers vascular consultation, ABPI measurement, wound dressing change, and microsclerotherapy for thread veins at Cairns Vascular Clinic on Fridays. Dr Bhutia's special interests lie in thoracic outlet syndrome, arteriovenous malformation, and upper limb hyperhidrosis. He is known for being a leading exponent of Jetstream Atherectomy for peripheral arterial disease in Australia. At present, Dr Bhutia receives all referrals through fax, email, or Medical Objects, and his clinic contacts patients with appointments within 24 hours of receiving a referral.
