Dr. Avi Raman is an experienced Urological and Transplant Surgeon specialising in all aspects of urology and renal transplantation. His expertise includes laparoscopic and robotic uro-oncology, benign urological conditions, and stone disease. Originally from the UK, Dr. Raman completed his medical degree from the University of New South Wales in 2004, as well as a Masters in Public Health. He completed his general surgical training and advanced Urological training in New South Wales and was accredited as a Urologist in 2016 by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Dr. Raman completed his Fellowship in renal surgery at the Royal Free Hospital in London, one of the largest renal surgery units in the world, where he worked alongside several renowned urologists. He has published extensively in national and international medical and surgical journals, and is on the editorial board of several international journals. Dr. Raman also actively participates in global teleconferencing for Medecins Sans Frontieres.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Raman is a conjoint lecturer at the University of Newcastle and plays an active role in teaching medical students and junior doctors. He operates in the public sector at the John Hunter, Belmont, Maitland Hospital, and Cessnock Hospital, as well as several local private hospitals. He has consulting rooms in East Maitland, Merewether and Nelson Bay, and is available to see patients in a timely fashion, including urgent referrals within a week. He is also available to GPs on the phone at any time and can be contacted through the rooms or directly on his mobile phone. With his extensive experience in endoscopic, robotic, laparoscopic and open urological and transplant surgery, he brings his expertise to the Newcastle and Hunter area.
