Dr Usha Shri Kissoon

Dr Usha Shri Kissoon is an esteemed Specialist Psychiatrist specializing in perinatal psychiatry and women's mental health. Currently practicing at Pine River Private Hospital in Strathpine, Brisbane, she brings over two decades of experience to her field.

Dr Kissoon's extensive background in paediatrics and obstetrics/gynaecology provides her with a profound understanding of the complexities of perinatal mental health. She is a Senior Specialist Psychiatrist with a strong focus on perinatal psychiatry and has made significant contributions to the field.

Before joining Pine River Private Hospital, Dr Kissoon served as a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit Consultant and Perinatal Psychiatrist at the Prince Charles Hospital and The Ellen Barren Family Home. She completed her medical degree in South Africa in 1988, followed by a Diploma in Child Health in 1993. Dr Kissoon obtained her psychiatric degree in South Africa in 1997 and ran a successful private practice there for six years.

Dr Kissoon has a passion for education and has been actively involved in teaching and examining medical students at UQ medical school and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. She has also been a co-investigator for pharmaceutical research trials at the Northwest Private Hospital site. Additionally, Dr Kissoon is a member of the Perinatal Infant Mental Health Advisory Group (PIMHAG) for QLD, demonstrating her commitment to advancing the field.

Beyond perinatal psychiatry, Dr Kissoon practices general adult psychiatry and has been dedicated to managing and advocating for pregnant refugee patients. She played a vital role in developing mental health programs for expecting mothers, contributing to the successful execution of the Mother Baby Day Program pilot study in 2009 as part of the Perinatal Interest Group.
