Mr Tom Shannon is a prostate cancer surgeon with over 15 years of experience and is an avid advocate of men's health. He is highly trained in advanced techniques such as MRI, prostate biopsy, brachytherapy, and robotic surgery. He is the founder of the first dedicated Prostate Clinic in Western Australia and uses the da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system at Hollywood Private Hospital to achieve excellent patient outcomes in the treatment of prostate cancer. His multi-disciplinary team includes a specialist Prostate Cancer Nurse, dietician, exercise physiologists, continence advisors, psychologists, and a sexual health physician who offer individualized care and attention to patients at all stages of treatment.
Mr Shannon is a graduate of the University of Western Australia and completed his Fellowship in Urology in 1999. He underwent post-fellowship training in minimally invasive surgery in the UK and USA and was among the first surgeons in Australia to perform keyhole surgery for kidney cancer, transplantation, and partial kidney excision. He has expertise in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery with over 1500 surgical cases under his belt.
Mr Shannon is highly involved in teaching and research and has presented at local, national, and international meetings. He is a surgical teacher for UWA, mentors students during their final year studies, and serves on the boards of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (WA), WA Urological Research Organisation, and ECU Exercise Medicine Research Institute. With his passion for men's health, years of experience, and extensive training, Mr Tom Shannon is highly committed to providing excellent care to his patients.
