Dr Terrence Ong

Dr Terrence Ong is a highly skilled ophthalmologist with a specialisation in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the anterior segment of the eye, including cataract surgery, corneal transplants, laser refractive surgery, and pterygium surgery.

Dr Ong obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from The University of Melbourne, where he excelled and was included in the Dean's Honours List. He then completed his specialist training in ophthalmology at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.

Driven by his passion for advancing his knowledge and skills, Dr Ong pursued further post-fellowship training in Cataract, Corneal, and Refractive surgery. He gained valuable experience and expertise through training programs in Cambridge (UK) and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London (UK).

Currently, Dr Ong holds the position of consultant ophthalmologist for the Corneal Clinic at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. In addition to providing clinical care to patients, he is actively involved in teaching and training registrar ophthalmologists as well as international ophthalmology trainees. Dr Ong also previously served as a Board Examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, contributing to the assessment of aspiring ophthalmologists.

Dr Ong has had the opportunity to present his research findings and expertise at scientific conferences both in Australia and overseas. He has also contributed to the advancement of the field through publication in scientific journals, including a notable publication in Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology titled "Microbial Keratitis Following Corneal Transplantation."

In recognition of his dedication and contributions, Dr Ong has been honoured with various awards throughout his career. Notably, he was included in the prestigious Dean's Honour List at The University of Melbourne in 1995.

Moreover, Dr Ong is fluent in Chinese, specifically Cantonese, which enables him to effectively communicate with patients who prefer to converse in their native language.

As a member of the Australia and New Zealand Cornea Society, Dr Ong remains up-to-date with the latest advancements and best practices in his field. He is committed to delivering exceptional care and improving the vision and quality of life for his patients.
