Dr Lei Liu

Dr. Lei Liu is a skilled Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract surgery, glaucoma, and retinal diseases. With over two decades of experience in both local and international settings, she has trained and practiced in Germany, the UK, and Australia. Dr. Liu has completed two glaucoma fellowships, one at the Bristol Eye Hospital in the UK and the other at the Royal Victorian Ear and Eye Hospital.

Throughout her career, Dr. Liu has developed expertise in various areas, including cataract surgery with a wide range of intraocular lenses such as monofocal, multifocal, extended depth of focus (EDOF), and toric IOLs. She is also skilled in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), glaucoma filtration and drainage surgery, and combined procedures for both cataract and glaucoma. Additionally, she diagnoses and treats conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and other general eye conditions.

Currently, Dr. Liu serves as an Ophthalmology consultant at the Alfred Hospital and holds the position of senior lecturer at Monash University. She has a strong passion for training the younger generation, as well as a commitment to education and research.

Dr. Liu is widely respected in her field and has contributed to the medical community through her research and publications. Since 2004, she has authored and acted as the lead investigator on several peer-reviewed journal articles. Her research has focused on ocular immunology, as well as the response and regulation of vascular eye diseases. More recently, her research at the Alfred Hospital has focused on retinal blood flow in glaucoma and diabetic patients undergoing OCT angiography.

Dr. Liu is known for her creative thinking and problem-solving skills. She approaches each patient with an open mind and explores alternate solutions to ensure the best possible eye care. Her commitment to her work is reflected in her timely correspondence and personable nature, ensuring that her patients receive the highest standard of care.
