Dr Suja Padmanabhan

Dr Suja Padmanabhan is an experienced Endocrinologist with a passion for providing comprehensive care to patients with endocrine disorders. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of New South Wales in 2004, and went on to complete her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in the Adult Medicine Division in 2013. Dr Padmanabhan also holds a Master's of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from JCU and a Doctor of Philosophy from USYD.

Dr Padmanabhan's special interests include Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, insulin pumps, and general endocrinology including thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, and adrenal disorders. She has a particular interest in the management of endocrine disorders in pregnancy, including Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and thyroid disorders. Additionally, Dr Padmanabhan has expertise in preconception planning for women with endocrine disorders.

Throughout her career, Dr Padmanabhan has been recognized for her contributions to the field of endocrinology. She has been honored with numerous awards, including the Australian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society Emerging Investigator Award and Travel Grant in 2016. Dr Padmanabhan has also received scholarships and research grants, such as the Postgraduate NHMRC Scholarship, Novo-Nordisk Regional Diabetes Support Scheme Grant, University of Sydney Medical Foundation Scholarship, and Westmead Hospital Clinical Research Support Scheme Grant.

Dr Padmanabhan's research has been published in several esteemed medical journals, such as Diabetes Care, Australian and New Zealand Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Minerva Endocrinologica, Pregnancy Hypertension: An International Journal of Women’s Cardiovascular Health, and Diabetic Medicine. Her studies have explored various topics, including the association of falling insulin requirements with maternal biomarkers and placental dysfunction, the effect of pregnancy on insulin requirements in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and the prediction of adverse pregnancy outcomes through microalbuminuria.
