Prof. Stephen Worthley is a highly-accomplished interventional cardiologist specialising in valvular disease and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Based in Wollstonecraft, Sydney, Australia, he offers consultation services at the North Shore Health Hub and performs a wide range of interventional and structural cardiac procedures at the Mater Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital, and Macquarie University Hospital.

After completing his Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery degree at the University of Adelaide in 1992, Prof. Worthley pursued his Cardiology fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He furthered his education by obtaining a PhD at the Mount Sinai Medical Centre in New York and completed a post-doctoral research and interventional fellowship at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne.

Prof. Worthley played a pivotal role in establishing the first dedicated Cardiac CT and MR units in the Asia Pacific region. Additionally, he served as the Helpman Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Adelaide from 2004 to 2016, where he led the Cardiovascular Research Centre.

Throughout his career, Prof. Worthley has made significant contributions to the field of interventional cardiology. He was instrumental in developing a radial access program at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, which grew to become the largest volume radial access program in Australia. He has also made notable academic contributions in the areas of cardiac imaging and interventional techniques.

Prof. Worthley is an avid educator and trainer in the field of interventional cardiology. He frequently imparts his knowledge and skills to cardiology fellows, as well as providing instruction and guidance to other interventional cardiologists worldwide. His expertise extends to transcatheter aortic valve replacement, transcatheter mitral valve replacement, left atrial appendage occlusion, and renal denervation.

With an impressive publication record of over 230 manuscripts and 5 book chapters, Prof. Worthley has also co-edited a Cardiovascular Textbook. He is actively involved in leading international multi-center cardiovascular therapy trials. His research interests encompass stem cell therapy, cardiac MRI and cardiovascular CT, transcatheter valve replacement, percutaneous mitral valve therapies, and renal artery denervation therapy. Prof. Worthley has performed numerous first-in-human cardiovascular procedures and holds positions on industry advisory boards, journal editorial boards, and government advisory groups.
