Dr Raymond Cook

Dr Raymond Cook is a highly experienced Neurosurgeon who has been in practice as a Consultant for over 25 years. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1982 and completed his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Neurosurgery a decade later. Dr Cook has trained in Sydney, Perth, London, and Birmingham Alabama and was a senior registrar at Atkinson Morley’s Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Great Ormond Street in London before returning to Sydney to practice. Dr Cook’s specialties are neuro-oncology and functional neurosurgery, specifically deep brain stimulation. He has extensive experience in surgery for brain tumors in adults, particularly glioma, meningioma, pituitary tumors, and ventricular tumors. Dr Cook has been a referral surgeon for awake tumor resection for tumors in eloquent brain regions throughout his career and has presented his expertise in glioma resection at the Neurosurgical Association of Australasia. He is also a co-founder and current Chairman of the Sydney Neuro-Oncology Group (SNOG), a charity that funds research into brain tumors, education, and nursing care. Functional neurosurgery is another critical aspect of Dr Cook’s practice. Over the past 20 years, he has been running Sydney Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery with Dr. Paul Silberstein, a neurologist. DBS is a game-changing surgery used in the current management of Parkinson’s Disease, dystonia, tremor, and rare disorders such as Tourette Syndrome. Dr Cook is in full-time practice based in St. Leonards, NSW, and sees both public and private patients in Gosford and the Central Coast.
