Dr Meghan Dares is an Australian-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle conditions and general orthopaedic trauma. She has extensive experience in both subspecialties, gained through international fellowships and training programs. Dr Dares is currently working at the Wollongong Foot and Ankle Centre with her specialised multidisciplinary team.
Dr Dares underwent her orthopaedic surgical training through the Sydney Southside training program. Later on, she completed a fellowship at South Africa's Tygerberg Hospital, where she gained expertise in using circular frames for diabetic foot reconstructions. Moreover, Dr Dares completed a foot and ankle surgery fellowship at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, where she developed an interest in new foot and ankle surgery techniques.
Dr Dares is devoted to the principles of functional rehabilitation, promoting early weight-bearing and immobilization weaning to achieve the best functional outcomes in patients. She believes that multidisciplinary consultation is crucial to restoring a patient's optimal functional outcome in the shortest amount of time possible.
Aside from being passionate about research, Dr Dares has been published in peer-reviewed journals, edited a book on diabetic foot, and presented on foot and ankle conditions at international meetings. She is also regularly involved in outreach programs within the South Pacific region. Dr Dares' drive to advance her subspecialties has positioned her as a leading orthopaedic surgeon, committed to providing expert care to her patients.
