Dr Katie Chen is an Australian and internationally trained ophthalmologist, specialising in cataract and oculoplastics surgeries. She practices in the suburb of Spring Hill, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Dr Chen obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Queensland in 2006. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Chen's expertise lies in general and comprehensive ophthalmology, with a particular focus on surgeries of the eyelid such as lid malpositions, ptosis, ectropions, and entropions. She is dedicated to providing high-quality care to her patients, catering to their individual needs and ensuring their optimal visual health.

During her junior doctor years, Dr Chen gained valuable experience at Nambour General Hospital on the Sunshine Coast and the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. She actively participated in numerous outreach ophthalmology clinics in rural and remote towns across Queensland, furthering her interest in rural and development ophthalmology.

To expand her knowledge and skills, Dr Chen completed her ophthalmology training at major tertiary hospitals in Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Townsville. Her commitment to providing eye care to underserved communities led her to become a Fred Hollows Foundation fellow, where she spent time in Alice Springs and the surrounding communities in Central Australia, as well as at the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva, Fiji.

In 2014, Dr Chen gained specialised training in pediatric ophthalmology under Professor Glen Gole at the Royal Children's Hospital and Queensland Children's Hospital. Satisfied with her achievements, she decided to pursue further expertise in the subspecialty of oculoplastics. Dr Chen completed an 18-month fellowship at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom, known worldwide for its excellence in patient care and medical education.

Dr Chen is actively involved in teaching and supervising medical students, junior doctors, and ophthalmology trainees. She currently practices at the Princess Alexandra Hospital publicly, where she continues to provide exceptional care to her patients. In addition, Dr Chen serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine and is a member of the RANZCO Women in Ophthalmology committee.

Outside of her professional life, Dr Chen enjoys reading widely and spending quality time with her young family. Dr Katie Chen is dedicated to improving the eye health of her patients and is committed to ongoing professional development in order to provide the highest level of care.
