Dr Mark Donaldson is an accomplished ophthalmologist with a unique and diverse set of experiences in the medical field. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Queensland in 1996 with First Class Honours. He then went on to complete his house officer training at the Princess Alexandra and Royal Brisbane Hospitals. His passion for ophthalmology led him to excel in academic achievements, including being awarded the Cedric Cohen medal and the John Parr Prize for the highest score in Australia and New Zealand for the Part I entrance examination for the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. In 2002, he was accepted into the ophthalmology training program at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital in Melbourne. He then further developed his skills in Retina and Vitreous Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in the United States in 2005. Thereafter, he received a Fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal and Macular Surgery with Professor Stanley Chang at the New York Presbyterian Hospital & Columbia University Medical Centre in New York in 2006. He brought his expertise back to Australia in 2007 and established a private practice in Retina, Vitreous and Macular Surgery at the Terrace Eye Centre and Queensland Eye Hospital. As a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland, he contributes to teaching medical students and ophthalmology registrars. Additionally, Dr Donaldson holds a public appointment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he consults with patients in the retina clinics. Dr Donaldson provides private consultations at Cairns Eye Surgery and performs retinal surgery at Ramsay Surgical Centre Cairns. With his extensive knowledge and experience, Dr Donaldson emphasises providing the best care for his patients, and his medical skillset stands out in advancing the field of ophthalmology.
