Dr Curtis is a highly experienced and skilled neurosurgeon, specialising in general neurosurgery, spine surgery and endovascular neurosurgery. With a focus on microsurgical and endovascular treatment of aneurysms and AVMs, he provides clipping and coiling procedures along with cerebral angiograms. He also performs a wide range of spinal surgery procedures including minimally invasive surgeries for disc prolapses or nerve compressions and complex instrumented spinal fusion surgeries. He treats all types of brain tumours, including pituitary surgery, and manages CSF circulation disorders.
Dr Curtis obtained his degree from the University of Sydney in 1996 and then completed his advanced neurosurgical training at the Royal North Shore Hospital, St Vincents Hospital, Westmead Paediatric Hospital, and the John Hunter Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Neurosurgery) since 2004. Dr Curtis also did an advanced 2.5-year international fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute and Swedish Science Foundation in Seattle, USA, where he was mentored by renowned neurosurgeons and interventional radiologists like Dr Marc Mayberg, Dr David Newell, and Dr Joseph Eskridge. During this period, he specialized in a full range of adult neurosurgical conditions, with a special focus on open vascular and endovascular techniques, minimally invasive spine and instrumented spinal fusion surgeries, complex skull base work for tumours and aneurysms, and the management of CSF circulation disorders.
Dr Curtis has been a consultant at North Shore Private Hospital since 2007 and holds dual training in conventional neurosurgery and newer minimally invasive techniques, which assists him in considering a broader spectrum of treatment options for vascular and spinal conditions. He regularly consults in Sydney and Gosford and is a VMO at Gosford Private Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Curtis is passionate about providing the best possible outcomes for his patients through risk minimization and a well-thought-out management strategy. He aims to be known for his personalised service, excellence, and innovation. He is delighted to serve Northern Sydney and the Central Coast as a Consultant Neurosurgeon, having grown up on the Central Coast and completing the majority of his training around the northern Sydney and Hunter regions.
