Prof Jonathan Clark

With over 220 peer-review publications and a lengthy list of accomplishments, Professor Jonathan Clark is a highly renowned surgeon specialising in head and neck cancer research. As a conjoint Clinical Professor at the University of Sydney, he also holds consultant positions in Head and Neck Surgery at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and Royal Prince Alfred hospitals. Professor Clark is notably the Director of the Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute’s head and neck cancer research and the head and neck research lead at the Royal Prince Alfred Institute of Academic Surgery.

In recognition of his extensive contribution to the field of head and neck surgery, Professor Clark was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019 and appointed as Master Surgeon by the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncological Societies (IFHNOS). He is also the Chairman of Beyond Five, an Australian patient education website dedicated to head and neck cancer awareness.

Professor Clark's extensive training began with undergraduate medical training at the University of NSW and continued with Head and Neck subspecialty training at various Sydney hospitals. He then completed a two-year Head and Neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University Health Network in Toronto, where he received advanced oncologic training as part of the American Head and Neck Society program. He also completed a postgraduate Masters of Biostatistics at the University of Sydney.

Professor Clark's clinical expertise includes surgery for salivary gland tumors, mouth cancer, precision jaw reconstruction and dental rehabilitation, facial nerve reconstruction for cancer, and transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for throat cancer. He is particularly well-versed in Head and Neck microvascular reconstruction techniques and has trained more than 30 international surgeons in this area since 2006. Overall, Professor Clark's contributions to the field of head and neck surgery have significantly advanced medical understanding and suffering among cancer patients.
