Dr John Ombiga

Dr. John Ombiga is an exceptionally skilled Consultant Gastroenterologist specialising in the treatment and management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He brings with him a wealth of expertise and has recently joined the team at Ramsay Cairns.

Passionate about gastroenterology, Dr. Ombiga has a particular interest in treating and managing conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Hepatitis. He is proficient in complex gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and advanced interventional endoscopic procedures including gastrointestinal stenting, endoscopic mucosal resection of large polyps, and complex stricture management.

Originally from Papua New Guinea, Dr. Ombiga completed his Gastroenterology training at Liverpool and Nepean Hospitals in Sydney. During his training, he acquired specialization as a Specialist Physician. He holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Ombiga further enhanced his skills and knowledge through two years of extensive research and training at Fremantle Hospital in Perth as a Fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This specialised training has enabled him to develop advanced expertise in managing and treating complex cases of IBD.

In addition to his role at Ramsay Cairns, Dr. Ombiga is a Staff Gastroenterologist at Cairns Hospital. Through his work at the hospital, he has gained substantial experience in treating conditions such as viral Hepatitis, chronic liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and interventional endoscopy.

Dr. Ombiga is dedicated to education and has made significant contributions in teaching and educating junior medical staff and JCU medical students. Since 2007, he has been actively involved in teaching advanced Gastroenterology trainee registrars, sharing his knowledge and experience to further develop the field.
