Dr John Albietz

Dr John Albietz is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing exclusively in spinal surgery, with a primary practice in Auchenflower, Brisbane. He completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland in 1996 and his orthopaedic training through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2005.

Following his training, Dr Albietz pursued advanced sub-specialty training in paediatric and adult spinal surgery in Canada. He completed a paediatric spinal fellowship at BC Children's Hospital and a combined adult orthopaedic/neurosurgical spinal fellowship at Vancouver General Hospital, both affiliated with the University of British Columbia. He then furthered his expertise through an adult spinal surgery fellowship at the Victoria Hospital, University of Western Ontario, in London Ontario.

Dr Albietz currently practices both privately and publicly. In the private sector, he consults and operates at the Wesley and Greenslopes Hospitals in Brisbane, as well as consulting at Peninsula Private Hospital in Redcliffe. In the public sector, he is affiliated with Mater Children's Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he is attached to the spinal injury unit and involved in teaching fellows, registrars, residents, and students.

With a strong interest in both adult and paediatric spinal surgery, Dr Albietz treats a broad range of conditions affecting the neck and lower back. This includes disc prolapses causing sciatica, complex scoliosis, spinal tumors, trauma, infection, deformity correction (scoliosis/kyphosis), and degenerative conditions such as disc prolapse, stenosis, and back pain. He emphasizes minimally invasive surgery whenever possible.

Dr Albietz is a member of the Spine Society of Australia and holds an Associate Fellow status with the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He has presented locally and internationally on various topics related to spinal surgery, showcasing his dedication to advancing the field.
