Dr Jill Tomlinson is a renowned plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgeon with several years of experience and expertise in her field. She completed her medical degree from the University of Melbourne with first-class honors in both medicine and surgery. She undertook her internship and basic surgical training at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, where she obtained a postgraduate diploma in surgical anatomy from Melbourne University Private. After her basic surgical training, Jill pursued advanced training in general surgery with a specialization in breast, thoracic, vascular, and bariatric surgery before starting advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, which earned her a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2011.
Following her qualification as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Jill pursued additional training in specialist hand surgery to offer a full range of hand and wrist surgery services to her patients. She has worked as the Plastic and Reconstructive Fellow at Western Health in Victoria, Hand, and Microsurgical Fellow on the Orthopedic Unit at John Hunter Hospital, among others, where she mastered the art of treating patients with various plastic surgical and hand conditions. She believes that using web technologies can improve patient communication, education, and outcomes and has developed the Jill Tomlinson Plastic Surgeon and Melbourne Hand Surgery websites to assist her patients.
Jill is an active member of several medical societies and has participated in senior roles during her tenure. She is a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has published several research articles in international journals. She keeps up-to-date knowledge of new developments in hand surgery through attendance at conferences and workshops and volunteers her time to teach surgical trainees as a training course faculty member with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and is a faculty member of the RACS Academy of Surgical Educators. Her charitable activities include supporting organisations like Interplast, Whitelion, Breast Cancer Network Australia, and Kiva, where she provides microfinance loans to alleviate poverty.
