Dr Irene Skiathitis is a General Paediatrician with a special interest in developmental issues, autism spectrum disorder, and behavioural concerns, including attention difficulties. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1997 and qualified as a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics) after gaining experience in numerous hospitals.
During her training, Dr Skiathitis worked extensively in developmental and behavioural paediatrics, gaining invaluable experience in assessing children with Autism, ADHD, and other complex medical conditions. In 2009, she undertook a fellowship in Child Advocacy (child protection) at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane, where she saw children with complex behavioural, social, and emotional concerns.
Later on, she also undertook a fellowship in Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics at the Child Development Unit, Keperra, Brisbane, where she received specific training in assessing children with developmental and behavioural difficulties. In 2012 to 2013, Dr Skiathitis worked as a Staff Specialist in General Paediatrics at the Royal Children’s Hospital, where she coordinated various services and therapies, including child psychiatrists, psychologists, and geneticists, among others.
Dr Skiathitis has a passion for assisting children with developmental needs to reach their full potential and understands the importance of advocating for and supporting their families and carers. She is fluent in Greek, which allows her to effectively communicate with Greek speaking patients and their families.
