A/Prof Ian Vela

Dr. Vela is a renowned Urologic Oncologist from Australia known for his extensive experience in the diagnosis, medical and surgical management of bladder and prostate cancer. He is a leading researcher with a special interest in the areas of urologic cancers and is the principal investigator on multiple clinical trials in these areas. He currently leads research teams at the Queensland University of Technology, where he is a senior research fellow.

Dr. Vela completed his medical training at the University of Queensland and went on to specialize in Urology, completing his training in various SEQ hospitals. During his residency, he also completed a PhD on factors involved in Metastatic Prostate Cancer. After finishing his training, Dr. Vela was selected for a two-year Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) accredited Fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York City. During this fellowship, he gained extensive training in robotic, laparoscopic and open surgical techniques for the treatment of urologic cancers.

After completing his overseas fellowship, Dr. Vela returned to his hometown of Brisbane and continues his clinical and research work through the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he is a senior staff surgeon. He now offers his services at Greenslopes Private Hospital and is consulting from Greenslopes Specialty Clinic.
