Dr. Tapia Rico's areas of interest and expertise include breast cancer, clinical research, gastrointestinal cancer, lung cancer, and melanoma. He has received several prestigious awards for his contributions to medical literature, including publications in Drugs & Aging, Cancer Treat Reviews, Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology, and Expert Opin Biol Ther.
Dr. Tapia Rico obtained his medical degree from the Complutense University of Madrid and completed medical oncology training at Gregorio Marañón Hospital, one of Spain's renowned medical institutions. In 2013, he was awarded his PhD degree for his research on alternative classifications of molecular subtypes in breast cancer.
After completing his training in Spain, Dr. Tapia Rico worked as a medical oncologist in the United Kingdom at esteemed hospitals such as the Royal Infirmary and Western General Hospitals in Edinburgh, as well as Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. In 2016, he moved to Australia, where he gained further expertise as a medical oncology clinical research fellow at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Royal Adelaide Hospital. His work focused on cancer clinical trials, with a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Tapia Rico is passionate about education and research. He holds the position of Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide and serves as the Clinical Director of Education at Icon Cancer Centre Adelaide. He actively participates in numerous leading cancer research groups in Australia and internationally.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Tapia Rico has extensive experience in managing a broad range of solid tumor malignancies. He has a special interest in immunotherapy, clinical trials, and the treatment of melanoma, gastrointestinal, lung, thyroid, and breast cancers. At Icon Cancer Centre Windsor Gardens, he oversees the Phase I Trials Unit for the evaluation of new cancer treatments.
