Dr Gary Yee

Dr Yee is a highly qualified and experienced Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon, with expertise in laparoscopic surgery. Originally from Malaysia, he completed his education in Brunei, Singapore, and Sydney, where he obtained his medical degree from the prestigious Sydney University in 1994. After completing his general medical residency, Dr Yee embarked on surgical research, which led him to undertake surgical training in Scotland, and later, to join the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Training program in Sydney in 2005. He successfully qualified as a General Surgeon in 2010 after which he served as a senior registrar at Bankstown Hospital and pursued further training in Upper GI surgery in Malaysia.

In 2011-12, Dr Yee was selected for subspecialty training by the Australia and New Zealand Gastro-oesophageal Surgery Society (ANZGOSA). He then completed an Upper GI fellowship at Newcastle’s John Hunter and Sydney’s St George Hospitals. Since 2013, Dr Yee has been a consultant surgeon at St George and Sutherland hospitals, where he has been providing exceptional care to a diverse range of patients. Dr Yee's specialised expertise in Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric surgery has made him a highly sought-after surgeon, which led him to add Wollongong Private Hospital to the list of facilities where he is accredited to perform surgeries.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Yee is actively engaged in research, with a strong interest in laparoscopic surgery. He has published numerous research articles in peer-reviewed journals, and he is frequently invited to present his research findings at national and international conferences. Dr Yee's dedication to advancing the field of medicine is evident through his involvement in training the next generation of surgeons. He is passionate about teaching and mentoring junior doctors and surgical trainees, and he regularly participates in surgical education programs.
